Annual Flushing Maintenance Program
May 07, 2026
Annual Flushing Maintenance Program
PWSD#2 of Andrew County will begin our annual maintenance program of flushing the District’s water lines this week, May 6, 2026 and will continue through the month of June. This is an important preventative maintenance activity. The process is part of the district’s routine preventative maintenance program that allows the district to preserve the integrity of the water system and deliver the highest quality water to our customers.
This is a standard procedure, but the switch to free chlorine and flushing the water mains can cause some temporary changes for residents.
Here is a quick summary of what to expect through June:
- Taste/Odor: You might notice a stronger chlorine smell or taste because of the switch from chloramines to free chlorine. This is normal and not a reason for concern, it is due to the switch in chlorine types
- Water Appearance: Temporary discoloration can occur while our employees are actively flushing in your immediate area. If you notice sediment or "cloudy" water, you can run your cold water taps for a few minutes.
- Pressure: You may experience brief periods of lower water pressure.
We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
Any questions, please call 816-378-3395.
